Experts Perspective Webcast: Wait Watchers – Gain Performance Increases Fast

,

Go FasterFollowing in the footsteps of such greats community leaders as Brent Ozar and Kevin Kline I have the opportunity, nay privilege of hosting the “Experts Perspective” webcast series. The only difference being for the next event which is held this week on 14th August 2014 that I won’t be hosting it, I’ll be hosting and presenting it!

As you may have gathered from the title, (and if you haven’t I’ll have to rework it) this session is all about Wait Statistics. If you don’t know what they are then perfect, read the abstract below. If you do know what they are then great – that doesn’t excuse you from reading the abstract below though.

Wait statistics are one of those things that lots of people say that they will get round to looking at, well put it off no longer with this session you’ll be able to hit the ground running. The session is suitable for developers, testers and DBA’s who are interested in how they can optimize their solutions using Microsoft’s SQL Server Data Platform.

Abstract

We’re all told to watch our weight and to exercise more, so to flip this on its head I will be showing you exercises that you can do to watch your waits. You could even eat a Danish pastry while watching if you wish (Danish pastry’s not provided).

In this session you will learn all about SQL Server’s wait statistics, these are statistics SQL Server stores about the resources it is waiting on. Armed with this information you as a SQL Server professional can make better informed decisions on which areas of your environment to tune to greater effect.

After attending this session you will be able to know where to find, interpret and use this information to tie down problem areas in your SQL Server estate. Not to fix that problem query, but improve overall performance for all of your users.

I’d like to thank those hosts who blazed a trail before me, all the speakers who have presented thus far, Dell Software (formerly Quest) for putting up the cash for these events and you for tuning in to watch them – either live or on demand.

You can register for the event here, the time is Aug 14th 09:00 PDT.
