Daily SQL Server 2008 New Feature

,

Every day for the next couple of weeks, I aim to highlight one of SQL Server 2008’s new features, simply for awareness. You can then go away and research the area and report back to me, we’ll then discuss how these new features can benefit us all.

Thursday 6th May

Filtered Indexes

These are very similar to standard non-clustered indexes, however they are capable of supporintg a WHERE clause, which basically means you can select or filter particular rows. Performance benefits can obviously be gained in certain situations using Filtered Indexes (e.g. you can now filter out all rows containing NULL values !)

Anyone using these ? If you have some good examples of performance gains please post.
