Can't Attend SQL Server Training in Person, Consider Virtual Training

,

I am one of the biggest advocates there is of self-education. Whether you are a novice, intermediate, or expert-level DBA, there is always something new to learn. Some of us learn best by reading, others by doing, and others by attending classes, user groups, or conferences in person. If you fall into the first two groups, then it doesn't make a lot of difference where you live, but if you fall into the third group, then where you live might affect your ability to attend training in person.

While many DBAs live in, or close to large cities with classes, user groups, or conferences available to them, many DBAs don't. Of course, traveling to attending training or conferences is an option, but not all DBAs can get the time off, or have the budget to travel.

One option these DBAs might want to consider is considering attending on-line training, such as those offered by SQLPASS, Microsoft, SQLServerCentral.Com, LearnSQLServer.Com, or SSWUG. Some of these websites offer free training, while others have minimal costs. Some offer basic training, while others offer extensive training. Some are strictly passive, while others offer interaction.

If prefer training in person, but just can't make it because you of where you live, consider one of the on-line training options above. While it may not be as good as being there in person, these options can still be a great way to help improve your skill set.
