A query has nothing to do with returning data. Plenty of queries are valid but return no data.

Thanks, I'll pass along to our Devs, but not sure this will be a high priority for us.

You can restore a filegroup, which might help if you have data split by filegroups. Perhaps current data in one, archived in another(s). That might allow you to restore one...
