Correct, because it can see every event in SQL Server, only a sysadmin can use this.

I haven't seen this, but one of my tasks over the next few weeks is to do some testing on full text search. Hopefully I'll learn a few things.

Great catch. I was suspecting some type of process, backups, anti virus, defrag, etc. holding part of that file open.

you can, but the backup utility is not very tolerant of network delays. I'd backup locally and then copy the file over.

You can also have the SMTP service running on the local host and bounce off there to your notes server.

vote for backup restore of all dbs. Move user dbs first, then system dbs.

if there truly is a generic account, you need to use business logic to stamp "who" the user is.

DTS has been flaky to me. I prefer backup/restore, no downtime, works, etc. detach/attach works, but requires downtime.

I use David's technique, but pipe the output to a single file. I then search for any error's that I've "echo"'d of there was an error.
