  • RE: The Logic, Mathematics, and Utility of NULLs

I think I follow Tom, though I'm not sure.

I do agree that a qualifier of some sort, different for each domain, may be what is needed. In practicality, the issue...

  • RE: Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Paul White NZ (8/24/2010)

@steve-2, Jack, Wayne: Getting out to the States is something I would definitely like to do at some stage.

@steve-2: Thanks for the offer to republish on SSC...

  • RE: Backing up multiple databases on the Daily baises

A differential backup is an incremental. Please use that terminology or it becomes hard to talk about this. As Jason mentioned, the more changes that occur, the further (in time)...

  • RE: Runtime error in site-search

This is a good place to post. Thanks.

  • RE: SQL 2008 High Level Design

I'd agree with Jorge that it's worth checking out those articles. You're asking for a lot of documentation there, and so much if it might vary depending on your environment...

  • RE: SQL 2008 High Level Design

What do you mean? How to design the hardware for a server? Or set it up?

  • RE: When To Touch

Fair points, Nick, and it's a tough battle. Fairly rarely does IT have significant input into choosing the suppliers, at least from what I've seen in the US. It's typically...

  • RE: Clustered index on DATETIME: hidden problems?

    Is this a DST thing?

That's tricky in and of itself. If I sell a widget (or record some event) at 8:05am, and then we have a DST rest at 8:59:59...

    nick brandwood (8/24/2010)

    Steve,

I work for a company that produces software managing the Offer-To-Invoice phase Bid and Tender management, with some very large multinational companies managing hundreds of millions of dollars...

    RobertYoung (8/24/2010)

    ....

Adding modifying functionality will not only be dangerous, but also tick off the vendor; you're stealing from their rice bowl (or so they feel). Even if you pull...

  • RE: When To Touch

    joshusch (8/24/2010)

From the editorial: "There are times that you might be tempted to change things in a database built a software company, or add objects to that database. In...

  • RE: When To Touch

    Nelson Petersen (8/24/2010)

    Some questions come to mind:

1.) If the purchased application is poorly designed or inadequately indexed, who made the decision to buy that software? The decision making...
