not sure what you are asking Jeff.   I'm going on the word of someone here who said he tried it and got an error that specifically forbids syns on linked...

thx Brian.   This is really interesting.  In the meantime we have proven that creating a linked server whose name is db1 but plumbing is server1.db1 does work with 0 code...
