Native compression is good but if you enable TDE compression is negated. Litespeed or SQLBackup will compress and encrypt your backups

Windows 2008 setup creates the first partition (boot) and automatically aligns the partition when creating it.
For windows 2003 you have to manually align using diskpart.

the network binding error is common on Windows 2008. You need to go into the registry and find the key as follows
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Linkage
Check the values for the Bind entry....

As you are using Windows 2008 you have multiple clustered MSDTC applications, one for each clustered instance of SQL server is possible!
