    Windows 2008 setup creates the first partition (boot) and automatically aligns the partition when creating it.

    For windows 2003 you have to manually align using diskpart.

    At the end of the day...

    Hi,

    Many people talk about "disk alignment" for Windows Server 2008 and its effect on SQL Server performance.

    I have a new PC and I am going to install Server 2008...

    the network binding error is common on Windows 2008. You need to go into the registry and find the key as follows

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Linkage

    Check the values for the Bind entry....

    As you are using Windows 2008 you have multiple clustered MSDTC applications, one for each clustered instance of SQL server is possible!

    Can I configure 2 endpoints on instance A then mirror database 1 to instance B and mirror database 2 to instance C?

    each sql server instance may have only 1...

    Sorry , guys ... I was trying to connect to the server and had the ODBC on my machine i.e the client instead of the server just did it...

    endpoints are created locally and used as the connection points between mirroring sessions!

    do you have a suitable driver installed on the server, check ODBC settings for the currently installed driver versions

    If any packages are using dts only components they will need re writing immediately and won't run in legacy mode.

    I am more concerned with DTS Packages from SQL 2000, Is it possible to let all of them run on Legacy Mode or it is advisable to upgrade...

    I use FreeNAS and present the LUN's over iSCSI to the Windows 2008 cluster nodes. Check my tutorial at this link
