have you checked this is not a keyboard issue. Since " and @ are reversed (amongst other chars) between english and US keyboards this can cause issues.

if you're unable to split tempdb log from tempdb data files they should go on the same drive, this is also the default offered in the sql server installer

Clustering guest machines does indeed pose some restrictions when you use shared storage. In a stable virtual infrastructure, I would be more inclined to rely on VMWare DRS and VMotion...
