Partitions are great, but you have to running the Enterprise Edition to use them. So, with that, are you running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition?

And, you really should consider dropping the use of the NOLOCK hint everywhere. You may want to start by reading this: http://blogs.msdn.com/davidlean/archive/2009/04/06/sql-server-nolock-hint-other-poor-ideas.aspx.

Anybody have some good links to why you should NOT use the NOLOCK hint? Seems everyone writing SELECT queries these days uses that everywhere.

Once you attached the database to SQL Server 2008, it updated the file structures to SQL Server 2008 making it essentially a SQL Server 2008 database using SQL Server 2005...

The only other question then would be how long do you retain the snap shots? If you keep them too long, you will mostly start to experience performance issues...
