Yes, every technique has its achilles heel... one of the CTE's is the recursion level...

But this works great for most things I used to use WHILE loops...

  • RE: Bulk Insert and Index Considerations

    Toby White (6/27/2008)

I am doing a bulk insert of 132,873,975 rows that are ordered by zip code. The receiving table has 2 indexes on it and a 3rd possible clustered...

Not trying to be obtuse, but can you expand on this a bit Jeff? What issues are there with BCPing directly into the final table? Also,...

    noeld (7/2/2008)

    Union All

    Select Case when SubString(@OldStr,Idx+1,1)...

You're going to be at PASS?

You've got a beverage-of-your-choice coming from me. Track me down.

Track you down? Heh... I'm putting my Avatar on the back of a...

  • RE: Possible new DBA position leery of the 'test'

You didn't know it was a mostly ETL job going in? Company either made a mistake or weren't getting any responses to begin with so changed the JD.

  • RE: Bulk Insert and Index Considerations

Rule of thumb says "Never BCP directly into the final table." Applies for this, as well... especially this. Load the million rows into a new staging table, then...

  • RE: Non sargable mightmare

    Wow...

I'm with Gus, but let me go one step further. With 5000 procedures (I assume that's like saying "a bazillion"), and all those ugly WHERE clauses, etc, etc, I...

  • RE: Congratulations to Our New MVPs

And, now... I'm just making a royal pain of myself by trying to answer everyone... Thank you all for the great support and I won't let you down in the...

    Congratulations Jeff and Michael.

A virtual pint to your honor ! (maybe we'll materialize that at SQLPass 😀 )

We can do that! I'll actually be at PASS this year!...

  • RE: Congratulations to Our New MVPs

    Jim Russell (7/2/2008)

Congrats to both. I am particularly delighted to see Jeff get the recognition he so richly deserves. (Just hope he doesn't get so involved in whatever MVPs do...
