Just a hint...
SELECT -1.06E+3, ROUND(-1056,-ROUND(LOG(ABS(1.06E+3))/LOG(10),0,1)+2)
Of course, if you use that in a WHERE clause, there's no way an Index Seek will ever occur. The formula is deterministic so...

If they're all on a SAN, many SAN either come with or you can purchase an extra bit of software that goes with them to "snapshot" them virtually on demand...
