  • RE: Democratizing the Microsoft MVP Award

I also don't think it needs to be changed.

    Definitely don't need "DBA Idol".

If specific forum sites were to implement MVP awards for their sites, they could certainly do it with...

  • RE: What's a Toaster?

I'll go with flash drives and e-mail clients as my toasters. I don't care which one I use, so long as it gets the job done.

    Same for online e-mail....

  • RE: WHILE LOOP vs. Recursive SQL

Here's an article I wrote a while back on hierarchies in SQL. The article and the discussion cover the subject pretty well.

  • RE: Update and rows affected

SQL doesn't report the table affected, just the rows.

You could pretty easily modify the triggers so they would report what table they affect, but most often, you really don't need...

    Jeff Moden (2/2/2010)

Heh... so "SSD" actually must mean "Slow Sector Destruction". 😛

I wonder if they like pork chops...

HDDs can still end up with bad sectors too. And RAM can...

Why is there a limit to begin with? Is it just due to the physical nature of the device?

Yep. And it keeps improving as they improve...

  • RE: Recursive CTE: Is it possible to count records without an aggregate function?

My solution on the SQL challenge would be to dynamically generate a series of inner joins, one for each ball ID. Building the query string would take a few...

  • RE: How to replicate an empty database??

Have you looked at the Generate Scripts option in Management Studio? That'll create all the objects in a database, without any data.

  • RE: End-user Query Builder Tool?

MS Access is excellent for that. Link it to the SQL server, query building can be all drag-and-drop and clicking, without writing a line of code.

    Reporting Services can do...

  • RE: Most efficient way to retrieve top identity value.

Like Lowell said, the Output clause can get that for you pretty efficiently. I've used that lots of times in lots of procs.
