You might be better off if you at least require the users to separate the words with commas. Then you can use a tally table to split the strings easily....

And it really has to match 100% exactly in order for this to work successfully. It's somewhat fragile in that regard.

If you're only doing a SELECT operation, there's no reason to do a TRY/CATCH.
