It could be differences in the paths stored within excel to object within AD where AD structure differs from Novell.

When attaching the db in the new server you will just need to specify (re-locate) the individual files (mdf and ldf).

I have seen it before that when doing an operation like this (using method 2), once the services are down, they dont easily come up. Suggest method 1!
