    I am prejudiced, but Redgate SQL Backup is a great piece of software (I work for them).

    Even on SSD the fragmentation will be an issue. The linking of the file segments is managed outside of sql server, so no map within SQL Server.

    If you use mount points, then the approach outlined here isn't going to do do much for you.

    Also, if you are using clusters, then it's often useful...
