After I shrink a database or file, I always run DBCC UPDATEUSAGE. EM tends to give wrong information until that is run.

another method is to detach the database, copy the .mdf and .ldf files to their new location and then attach them.

The error message said to check the SQL Server Error Log for more information, did you do that?
Also check the Windows Event Viewer logs as there may be more information...

Most important thing to do before installing SP4....
Was your SQL Server instance/db created by a third-party application? If so, check with them first before installing SP4. SP4 changes the way...
