Do you take log backups during the day and at what frequency are the log backups taken? How much data can you afford to lose in the event of corruption...

Have a look at the reports or run sp_spaceused on each node and instance you want the information for.

You can use the in-built reports in Management Studio. Right click on the tempdb database in Management Studio -->Reports-->Standard Reports -->Disk Usage

The differential will just include any changes since the last successful full backup so as the full backup was cancelled you should expect the diff backup to be larger than...

For online courses I've found Learning Tree to be excellent. Courses are designed to help you prepare for the exam so do not include the cost of the exam itself.

I think it is the best 3rd party product out there. It's great for testing your backups are good and can be restored.
