You can still connect to SQL Server 2005 using SSMS 18 so you should come across any problems as far as I'm aware.

I don't rename the sa account but you can do if you wish. Disabling the account doesn't create any problems as internal processes are still able to use it.

I set sa as the database owner but I always disable the sa account so there are no problems with security.

If you don't need to do point in time recovery then you may be as well just keeping your daily full backup and putting the database into simple recovery.

It gets created during the dbcc checkdb. Did the checkdb complete without any errors?
