There typically is only one active transaction log per database. Or do you mean number of active transactions?

Why didn't you restore the .NDF file from the same time frame? Do you have a full SQL Server backup of said database?

You can with 2000 if you use tracing. That's the audit mechanism. There are trace events corresponding to object creation/deletion.
