Hi Everybody,
We are building a new VM box for one of our application which is going to run on SQL Server 2008.
We are going for Windows 2008-64 bit virtual server and SQL Server 2008-64 bit.
As per the application vendor recommendation, the server team wants to go for single CPU at this point. But, in future if we have any performance issues, we are planning to add another processor to it.
Now, my question is will SQL accepts or detects the new processor when it is added ?? or do we need to do any other configuration changes ????
Will the restart of the server automatically makes SQL to detect the new processor ???
Please, help me in explaining this to my project members about the issues we can have by this in future.
Thanks in Advance,
Sree

SQL Server will "see" the new processor upon restart.
You will though, have to make sure you are in compliance with the SQL Licensing in place. If it is per CAL, no change would occur, but if you have a per CPU license, you would need to take care of that.
