Using the Quote feature in these forums

  • Okay, I've just recently figured out how to use the Quote function in threads, but I can't seem to make it quote a specific line.  It keeps quoting the very beginning of the post I'm copying from instead of the line I highlight.

Can someone give me a tip on how to use the Quote function to pull a line from the middle or end of someone's post?

    Thanks,

  • Copy a quote from an existing post... paste it to yours... edit the quote using CPR (Copy, Paste, Replace).

  • But that doesn't put the quote into the little Quote window, does it?

At least, I haven't been able to make it work.

Here's what I'm doing.  I go to someone's post, highlight the line I want and then hit the "Quote" button atop the post.  When the "Your Reply" window opens up, I right click and go to paste.  yes, it pastes the line I highlighted, but when I go to preview, the line I highlighted is on the regular screen with the rest of what I'm typing while the first two lines of the quoted post are in the Quote window.

What I want is the line I highlighted to be in the quote window, but it's not working that way.

  • No... not the right way... you have to copy a quote box from some other thread and paste it into your response... then edit what's in that graphic by copying and pasting from some other thread... usually requires that you have more than one window open...

Highlighting text and hitting the "Quote" button will not do it.

  • Quotes a little flaky. I prefer to use quotes

Bob said "Steve's opinions are stupid"

    I agree.

  • <table cellpadding='5' cellspacing='1' class='quote'><tr><td valign='top' nowrap width='11'><img src='http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums/images/quoteicon.gif' width='11' alt='quote' height='13' align='absmiddle'></td><td width='99%'>

Just ADD the line here if you don't use IE and the code will come out as below

    </td></tr></table>

This is a test of the quote box system...

Aha... " 'I see,' said the blind man to his deaf wife as she handed him his hammer and saw"...

Thanks, All, for the input.  It helps. @=)
