The last real conference I attended was RailsConf 2008 in Portland. A nice visit to a place with light rail from the airport, a vibrant (pre-COVID) downtown, my favorite author (Ursula K. Le Guin) doing a reading the evening I flew in. That was a big huge conference, but with a good vibe, since Rails was certainly not a corporate favorite.
I prefer to attend SQLSaturdays type events. Small, cheap, and presenters volunteering their time. Even at those, I often attend the "hallway track", since presentations I can find online often.
Large events like PASS or FabCon are good ways to get everyone together, but just too big for me. Maybe next year.

I've never been to an event that is geared towards the C-Suite. I'm not in the C-Suite, even though I get lots of emails from vendors inviting me to attend. The odds of my employer authorizing that is zero.
I do like the grassroots local events but am sad to say that for some reason they've really dropped off in my local area. For example, it's been since between the pandemic that we had a SQL Saturday in my area, and I don't know when, or if, we'll ever have another one.
Kindest Regards, Rod Connect with me on LinkedIn.

Put me in the "techie-focussed" events column as well. I've been to a couple SQL Saturdays (and have the same issue as Rod, there's none close), a few SQL User Group meetings (Hi Jeff Moden!), and (so far) once to Summit, and frankly? I've loved them.
This past week I had the option to go to a more "C Suite" focused event, not related to SQL but related to the industry I work in, and frankly, nothing on the description of the event or the listing of the various discussions sounded like it would keep my interest for more than a minute.
Hopefully this year I'll be going back to Summit, but with the current upheavals with my employer, that's very, very much up in the air at this moment...
