Okay new question. There is a DB called phone, and the phone.mdf has been damaged. So you rebuild the database. Is there a way to use the old phone.ldf? No backups to do a restore from. I know I am grasping at straws but I am tring to get as much data as I can back.
Note: (The DBA responsable for this mess is still walking upright...for the moment! )

How did the file get damaged anyways?

Hardware errors. You look at the file names and the size on the MDF is 0.

He can't blame you for hardware problems.
He can blame you for not backing it up and himself for not making sure you backed it up though

I dont deserver any of the blame as it is owned by another DBA that as you can see did not do his job. I was trying to help. T
Thanks everyone for look at this. I was pretty sure that there was little hope.

Staci,
Silly question but did you look for any backups on disk?

That is the reason I am gaoing to plant my size elevens in the other DBA's back side. He never made any backups of the databases. He "ASSUMED" that the database would automatically backup. ![]()

I thought that he had a Maintenance plan set up to get all non system databases every night.
I have had a long talk with him on the subject. I hope that this has been a good learning experiance.
Thanks for all the replies.
