SSMS 2008 R2 Start/Stop Service

  • Taking over for previous SQL admin, and he has set up a Windows cluster with a SQL cluster as a service. Want to give access to start/stop that particular service through SSMS but it is showing as greyed out. Would rather not give them access to Failover Cluster Manager or admin rights. Is there a way to do this in SSMS 2008 R2? They are already a sysadmin to that SQL instance.

  • Actually, that is the only 'proper' way you want to allow a sql instance to be restarted...thru the cluster administrator.

  • I agree with Steve!
