SQL SERVER 2005 - MEMORY PROBLEM

  • HI ALL,

Sql server 2005 CTP takes around 1.5 GB Memory to run.. I did try to remove all options specified in the SQL Server Area Configuration...It did reduce to 256MB but again after couple of reboots the sqlserver is back to its 1.5GB mem space... Cant do any thing on the machine...all resources are sucked up by sql server 2005.. How can I manage this Beafy Demon???

    Please help.....

  • How can SQL Server 2005 CTP take around 1.5 Gbytes of memory! Are you talking seriously? It's frustating! We are bound to try and upgrade to 2005, but after reading your post I'm now quite reluctant to moving to 2005 version. What a pain! This way you are obliged to buy a "super-server"!

Any other experiences with 2005 version will be greatly appreciated.

  • Any server will load all it can in memory for faster access... The recommanded ram for the server is 1 Gig IIRC. The rest is just data sent in memory for faster access.

  • It sounds as though you are a 'victim' of accepting 'defaults' ... RGR'us statement of the server loading all it can is pretty much on target. However, I suggest at least 4 Gb for a SQL Server since the OS can grab 2 Gb and SQL Server can grab 2 Gb as well. I do not reccommend the defaults for memory. I always use 4 Gb of RAM for a SQL Server and give SQL Server 3 Gb leaving the OS with 1 Gb- which is plenty.
