SQL 2016- primary onsite and alwaysON on Azure (SQL VM)

  • We are planning to implement AlwaysOn on Azure for our onSite primary server. It will be Read-Only and will use it for backups and reporting.

Wondering if I can use it for monthly failovers for windows patching.

    Do you see any issues?

They are going to be in two different geographical areas.

  • Do you mean that you're planning a hybrid setup, with one of your Availability Replicas on premises, and one on an Azure VM? What's your network link like; have you got a dedicated line, or are you going over the public internet (or something else)?
