SQL 2005 Update Stats taking longer than backup.

    I rather not try in that it my affect our production environment.

    I'm not sure why you would have reservations about using sp_updatestats.

    sp_updatestats is just another method of updating statistics, and it is designed to only update the statistics when necessary. It will usually run much faster, and is usually all that is needed to to maintain statistics.

    I'll take a look at it. Maybe I can run it in the morning. If the results are bad, I'll check the fragmantation.
