I'm upgrading to SP4 and after selecting the authentication mode, the process hangs trying to Validate user.
I have tried using Windows authentication and sa credentials with the same errors.
Any suggesstions.
TIA

I noticed this issue a couple of times in the past. It drove me crazy. Have you changed the passwords to the service accounts running SQL Server and/or the SQL Agent using Computer Management/Services MMC ? If you have then there are possibly some registry keys and permissions that are, for lack of a good technical term, 'hosed up'. It's easy to fix. Just use EM to change the passwords and restart the SQL Server. Then SP4 should install OK. There is also a KB article out there if you want to fix it manually - unfortunately I did not save the link since the EM thing was so much easier !

It worked, upgraded to MDAC 2.8 and ran the setupsql.exe in lieu of the setup.bat file.
Thanks anyways
