Should We upgrade to SQL server 2019

  • We are using SQL server 2017 now on premise.  I am wondering if we need to upgrade to SQL server 2019. And no plan to use Azure.

We do not need those new features and all our applications runs fine currently on SQL 2017..

Or should I wait for next version of SQL server?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  • Only if you need to use one of the new features. Do you?

    • Do you need new features in 2019? You say you don't, so I would say...probably not.
    • Are you migrating the databases on your 2017 instance to a new instance? If so, I'd suggest moving to the latest version just to give yourself more runway (longest support life). Assuming it's not going to change your licensing requirements, that is.
  • Thanks, that is what I am thinking too. We are not using the new features.

And Only when we need to move to a new instance, then we can upgrade

  • I wouldn't upgrade until I ran out of support or had another need.

  • Thank you all!
