    I wasn't build one file group for each index... it was for one table and it's related indexes but only if those indexes require index maintenance.

    You say you have hundreds of large indexes.   So I have an appreciation for what you're describing, what do you consider to be  a large index, how often do you do index maintenance on them, and what does your index maintenance plan look like?
