Correct answer is 5 not 4 ... I want my 2 points.... Thank you

    Roshan

You just got one of them. If you want points that badly you can have some of mine. Last I checked they are still useless.

What? They are useless? I was hoping to trade them in for a free toaster. 🙂

Ohhh did they bring back the toaster? Last time it was for 1,000,000 points. I think Steve and Gail were the only ones to receive a toaster. They gave one to Grant too even though he didn't have enough points. 😀

Oh well, I don't think I can get to a million before Christmas, I'll have to break it to the wife she won't be getting a present this year. 🙂

Or just open a new bank account with $100. May be the best Christmas ever!!! I am off to the bank now to save my own marriage. :hehe:

I tink the question must include the collation, because if the collation is case sensitive the answer will be 2.

I think you mean 3, but yes collation does make a difference. Makes one want to post a question using names in different collation scenarios, how about something like Zoë? I will resist....

    ...

  • Apologies. 5 Rows are returned. The wrong box got checked.

    Awarding back points to everyone.

The problem is I don't think there is one left that would consider me a 'new' account, how do you think I made it through 22 years of marriage. :hehe:

  • Looks like there's sometimes an advantage to SQL Server Central e-mails getting stuck for hours in our spam filter, it means I missed all this and got given the correct answer for choosing 5... 🙂

  • an even correcter answer would be:

    It depends

(5 with a case insensitive collation, three if the collation is case sensitive. )

"I cant stress enough the importance of switching from a sequential files mindset to set-based thinking. After you make the switch, you can spend your time tuning and optimizing your queries instead of maintaining lengthy, poor-performing code."

  • Well, I answered 5 because 3 was not an option

as usuall the correct answer is "depends..."

if database is case sensitive then the answer should be 3!

Similar, except in my case it is -9 hours...

    Thanks, Steve!

As has always been the rule with QOTD. Unless otherwise specified assume defaults and the default for case sensitivity is insensitive.

One could always argue the case is "it depends". If you already had that table in your system it would cause an error....unless of course the columns were the same name and datatypes.
