Mark as Answer and Collect Pointers

  • How about letting the poster, mark a couple of suggestions as answers that will change its color or something.. also let the forumn poster collect imp points from the answere.. He/She should be able ot select the line/word and righ-click as Take Pointer.. which will be accumulated in this forumn post as valuable pointers to this Question.. so the users in Future can reference those first insted of browsing through all the posts....

  • We've had that discussion numerous times on this forum, and it always comes down to it having too many problems.

  • Since they don't know the answer to the question (or they wouldn't have asked), the original poster is often the least qualified to judge the best answer when there are several answers.

Also, none of the answers may really be correct or optimal.

Knowledge comes to those willing to dig through all the answers, test, and judge for themselves.

  • Ditto to both of those responses. Many times, we can't even get the OP to effectively post the question. Why would you want someone like that to decide which answer was the best. And, even if the op is qualified to do just that, what if someone comes by an hour later and posts an absolute killer answer that blows the rest of the answers out of the water?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Jeff and Michael have good reasons here for noting this. We might change to allow some voting, but i'm torn about it. Not sure that it is the best solution.
