Is there any way to prevent job history from being deleted? It's very easy to inadvertently wipe out this information. How about recover it if it was deleted without restoring the msdb?

You may ask to write report on your server and don't check delete old files in that report. You can have the all job history

Why not create a job history table in your user database and populate it off of a trigger on the system table?

I'm not real experienced with DTS but it sounds like a better soluition than a trigger on a system table.
