It's Time to Patch and Upgrade

Things like this scare me to death.  Consider how dependent we've become on computers both large and small.  Shoot, even my pickup truck is subject to being able to be shut down remotely.  Heh... sit IoT, sit.  Good boy.

I totally get IoT enabled shipping containers and weather monitoring stations in an industrial or scientific setting. But I have to say that I'm underwhelmed by the hype of the IoT movement, especially at the consumer level. They are adding expense, maintenance, and security issues to everyday products without adding practical value. Of course a marketing company (or Big Brother) would want to embed IoT devices in my home appliances and car, but what's not so obvious is why we as the end consumer would want it.

OK, folks here is a link the most stupid IT related story of 2017.  Be advised, this screwup is so sordid it's probably NSFW.
Trigger Warning: This story involves an IoT enabled ... (wtf ???  Let's just call it a bedroom tech solution.) that went very very wrong.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
