If a connection is lost to a mirror and partner, how long before it won't recover?

  • If a connection is lost in SQL Server 2005, how long can the connection be down before the miirror can no longer recover? is it based on transactions, amount of time? or can it always recover?

  • I believe the limiting factor is the transaction log size of the principal database. Meaning if the mirror is down for a long enough period of time the tran log will fill on the principal database. So the time until failure would also depend on your system load.

I've had a mirror server down for over 24 hrs on a lightly loaded system and the mirrored databases we able to sync up fine.
