Nice work; However, your work it’s not cost-free as you have spent time on developing your custom proxy and more time will be spent in the future for maintaining it. Rds proxy might add some extra charges to the infrastructure cost but allow to scale without spinning another instance hence saving monies and you have nothing to internally maintain and documenting.
