Not a TCPIP expert, but I had to do an emergency install of a new SQL Server(2000) and webservers can't seem to see it. I thought I had everything setup the same way, but apparently not quite - machines that used to be able to get to the old SQL server box over TCPIP using the SQL Server IP address can't connect to this new one. Unfortunately the old box is no longer functions - hence the emergency.
I can connect to sql server from itself, and a netstat -an shows it is listening on 127.0.0.1:1433.
This box has mulitple real-world IP addresses for the same NIC, but I want to be able to connect to it over TCPIP using one of the real-world addresses. Connection attempts fail with the "sql server does not exist or access denied" message.

Try running the SQL Server Network Utility. Check whether TCP/IP is enabled

Well, I couldn't find much help at 10:00 on a Sunday, so I tried rebooting the box, and now it is listening on all IP's for the machine. Works now. Very strange. That's the only thing I had changed.
Thanks for the response.
