Help Needed

  • I just ran into this myself with a new server, you have to manually configure the DTC service.  Even though it is running, it won't do anything until you slap it around.

"The problem occurs because Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) is not configured for network access. By default, the network access settings of MS DTC are disabled on new installations of SQL Server 2000 on computers that are running Windows Server 2003."

I also haven't had any luck with linked servers using Windows authentication on WS2003 servers.  I found Microsoft articles on obscure security settings to allow delegation of something or other, but our network admin wouldn't allow fiddling with security settings so I gave up and just use SQL authentication.  If someone has a simple explanation of how to set this up (that will convince an uptight net admin), I'd love to see it.
