Enabling Registry startup parameters, will effect the SQL Server performance?

  • Hi,

6 months ago we have contacted MS for an issue in our SQL Server hosting share point databases and they told us to enable the bleow traces, to catch the dump file details if it occurs again. At that time we have SP2 but now we have applied SP3 and the issue did not occur from last 6 months but the trace files still enabled. My question is , enabling these Registry startup parameters, will effect the SQL Server performance? Can I remove those Registry startup parameters? please advice me.

2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server Registry startup parameters:

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -d D:\Microsoft SQL Server\INS1\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\master.mdf

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -e D:\Microsoft SQL Server\INS1\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -l D:\Microsoft SQL Server\INS1\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\mastlog.ldf

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -T 4606

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -T 815

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -T 818

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -T 2551

    2009-08-26 17:13:45.98 Server -T 1222

    thanks

  • Please advice me.

  • How long has it been since the issue last occurred (6 months)?

How long has it been since you installed SP3?

Do you remember how to re-enable the trace flags?

If you are not concerned that it will happen again, or that it may but you know how to enable the trace flags, then disable the trace flags.

  • Is enabling these Registry startup parameters, will effect the SQL Server performance?

  • As CirquedeSQLeil has already said, if you know how to disable the trace flags and are confident enough to reapply them if you need to, then disable them. noone here can tell you any more than that. if the problem has not reappeared since you applied the servive pack. it is up to you what you do.

  • Yes it affects performance if logging is more. If you see that a lot of dump files are getting created then you can shred them out, if you don't need them. You need to restart the server after you take them out.
