  • Forgive me, Jedi Master!

I disputed you. I didn't believe you could create more than SSISDB on a single operating system, BECAUSE if you look at the Feature Selection step of installation, as seen here http://www.e-squillace.com/tech/screenshotgallery/SQL/SQL2012/SQL2012_RTM_Install_Steps_files/Step9b-FeatureSelection-SQLFeatures.png, [SUPPOSEDLY] you can only install Integration Services once per operating system.

So, I had to try out the claim that you could install SSIS on more than one instance per operating system. Of course, the Jedi Master was correct. So, Microsoft, a bit of clarification on the installation screen might help.

Also, take a look at this person's hard work:

I think you can install Integration Services only once per operating system (for a given edition), but this is just the SSIS service (not really used in the project deployment model) and the necesary binaries to run SSIS. You can however create multiple SSIS catalogs, i.e. one per database instance.

You can also install multiple versions of SSIS, for example SSIS 2012 and SSIS 2014. I should test out someday how well they can live together on one system.

  • Very clearly laid out. Thanks. My query is that I have sql server 2012 edition with sql server data tools (2010 edition). I have managed to make a ssis catalogue that can be seen in ssms. However my package project doesnt have a deploy option. Does it mean that deploy option is only available with sql server data tools 2012?

    Thanks

  • I have to ask the obvious. Are you right clicking on the Project, or the Package? Is the project in the Project Deployment Model or the former Package Deployment Model?

You can use the 2010 edition to deploy SSIS projects.

Make sure you are using the right deployment model and that you click on the correct object.

  • I have created SSISDB in SSMS and then opening BIDS . Right clicking on the project (not on package) and there I cant get an option for deploy (i am getting build, rebuild and calculate code metrics). How would I enable project deployment model?

  • Right-click on project and convert to project deployment model.

(you are working with VS2010 right?)

  • Thanks ss i have converted it to project deployment model. a wizard came up , i selected the server name in (select source step). however i am stuck with the ssidb folder option. It doesnot let me create a new folder like (test in the example shown) and i cannot proceed further as ok button is disabled.
