DB corrupted with event 17052 and Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 2

A backup room is being seeked and hopefully we find it so we don't have to do the fix on the real prod server

Stupid-ish question. Any other db on that server?

If not you could always backup all system dbs and try doing the work there (assuming getting that back up 24 hours earlier is a big plus and there's no downside if you kill the server)

Run SP_configure and set allow updates to 1. Update sysdatabases for that database and set the status to 32767.

Then see if you can access the DB and run checkdb. Not repair, just with the no_infomsgs and all_errormsgs options.

can you elaborate? i thought before SP_configure i have to be in that db, and it won't let me in that db. meaning the following won't work? or I just need to use in master?

    use sels

    go

    sp_configure 'Allow updates',1

    go

You can run that anywhere, it's a server-wide setting.

What do you mean 'won't let you'? It's going to require sysadmin permissions, as will just about everything else.

Get Gail in for a consult. Can't be done over forums.

I would love to, but if that costs any expense, then I personally can't make it.;-)

Absolutely, I'd recommend getting someone in to look at it. No one was suggesting you pay it (my rates aren't targeted at individuals), your company should get someone in and pay for it.

And Gail has worked / consulted with Banks before so I doubt it would be a very hard sale to make to your bosses.

And there's clearly something very wrong in the system (2 major corruption events in a couple weeks), you're over your head and you need help. She's proven she can provide it to you.

Not much left to talk about at this point 😉

If you don't have another server, then work on that server, just be aware if there are any other DBs you could impact their performance at the least. If you make a mistake, you could break those DBs.

As for realtime assistance, that I charge for. I'll be around for the next few hours, but I have a lot of paying work and studying that I still have to do today.

Understood that, last time when I tried to sell the idea of buying Steller SQL Recovery Tool, I was blamed by my boss which really hurts me.

    Blamed?

I'd go over his head or straight to HR with this. There's more than just DR wrong with this... let's call it department at this point.
