Are the posted questions getting worse?

Everything of value was copied off ages ago.

Well done, Gail. That statement says it all. It won't help with the time required to set up a new desktop, but it's got to be comforting to know you already have everything of value. I try to do the same, but I'm usually behind a little.

Very true, I try to move my stuff on a monthly basis - well the deltas anyway.

Do you think it is worth writing an article / blog on how you have used a particular feature (in SQL Server) to help you in your day to day operations even though it is not a new concept?

I'm busy writing a blog series on an ancient feature of SQL server - transactions. A concept that's old hat to you may be brand new to someone else.

Some things are never over stated and constantly needs to be voiced.

Did you just upgrade to Windows 10?

  • Thoughts on the recently published magic quadrant? Still doesn't stop my fellow colleagues ( of an Oracle nature) continuing perception that SQL is not used for mission-critical applications. ... Urr ok.

I'm sure it is. I'm also pretty sure that installing it on a machine that keeps dropping drives out of Explorer or booting and detecting a subset of the IDE drives (a different subset on each boot) would be a really stupid idea.

No no seriously, bar the fact that I cant control updates anymore I really like talking to my PC. Its just different.

I hate, hate, HATE the fact that we can't control updates anymore. How does that work in an Enterprise environment when you need to test the updates first before deploying to production machines?

And if they made an exception for business users, why can't they make an exception for those of us who use our home machines for business or are techies or both?

EDIT: And what's with this DAMN password manager thing that keeps popping up every time I open a browser window asking for my desktop password? Anybody using this instead of Password Safe or the other password managers? Or in addition to?

  • A couple of updates on the Brandie front.

I've been accepted for a MBA program and start my first class in a week+. Wish me luck.

I'm getting paperwork drawn up to start my own LLC and do some independent publishing. It'll start off with a few of my own works, reprinted, to verify what the heck I'm doing.

And I posted about my computer issue on TechNet if anyone would like to pile on. I see I have one response, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Any additional comments would be appreciated.

Fun stuff in my future and my now. Crossing fingers that it all goes well.

    EDIT: Changed link.

Amen. It's going to get them into trouble one day. Let's not forget the SQL 2014 SP1 debacle not so long ago, or many other incidents before that.

I don't. For me, it's a matter of trust. I won't store my passwords in the Microsoft cloud.
