    Can you give some indication of the reason people might want to use KQL rather than SQL?  What advantages does it have that justify the effort of learning it?

    To me working in Azure, Log Analytics workspaces, at least in the Azure Portal UI, has you using Kusto to query the data.  I haven't spent a ton of time figuring out how to query it, but if you publish diagnostic settings to a Log Analytics workspace, and then want to query the diagnostics, Kusto seems like the logical (perhaps only) way to query it.
