Alert!!!!

  • Something that look simple enough not to cause any nightmare is drawing me through hell.

I have a third party monitoring utilities that goes through my errorlog and NT eventlog for any error and generate a ticket when any error that has severity 19 and above.

I created a user error message 5001 and 5002 with severity 22 to occur when ever my backup and transaction log failed.( Note: I know I can use sql mail but no mail in my environment). So the story:

Nothing is reported and no ticket is generated each time my backup fails. Does anyone know what to do next? I have done everything thing plus using raiseerror stored procedure to make it log but all to no avail. Is this a problem with sql7 and/or 2000? Your two cent contribution welcomed.

  • are you using log encapsulation and openview?
