A Wish list for the Microsoft Flying Squad

  • How about simple touches to SSMS like:

    sort output columns by clicking

compare output of two different result sets

    compare two different code windows

right-mouse click on object name in QA and open it for editing? (avoids traversing the object explorer)

making object explorer more sensitive to hover actions (expand contract after a short delay)

convert a tabbed text into csv or vice versa?

customize intellisense to operate only on column names?

integration with SVN, GIT etc. Open the interface so others can build the addins.

more custom keyboard keystrokes instead of just 9

make the whole UI experience faster or at least match the snappiness of the old Enterprise Manager.

Agree with Gift and Jeff on documentation and "passing the baton". Any project that's in a position where losing a person, either due to employment termination or accident/illness, needs a better manager.

People moving on is not related to illness or termination more like let your sycophants do the work for you and this affects for than 40 percent of software development projects. These are not isolated manager should be replaced issues marginalized people move on at least one or more everyday in the US that is the reason 60 percent software projects fail.

Microsoft is in a better position to mitigate these issues more than other companies because other people can use what is more like the public documentation of the feature in most cases code included.

    Completely agree with you.

Along these lines for SSMS why don't they make a solution explorer that is worth using? I use the current one to create solutions and projects so that all the DB code is actually in source files that can reside in VSS and is somewhat arranged but only to the extent allowed by this poor implementation of a solution explorer. The SSMS solution explorer is so lacking in any features it isn't even funny. It almost discourages its use! It is one of things that really bugs me about SSMS. Visual Studio's version is no better, and neither is compatible!

Improve the SSMS solution explorer (maybe people will actually use it and version control their source files)!
