  • RE: Record Purge Compliance

    GilaMonster (10/5/2011)

How strictly is 'purge' defined? If I can take a hex editor, read the disk raw and find the data there is it a violation?

    Theoretically when the retention period...

  • RE: The maintenance plan job keeps changing the owner?!!!

This problem has been driving me nuts for a month! I finally recognized what it was doing, thanks for posting the fix, hopefully I can take care of it...

  • RE: Maintenance backup plan isn't.

(I started writing this probably over a week ago and somehow never posted it!)

I just completed a further test. I have a server that has only had 2005 installed...

  • RE: 100 Years Ago, What Would You Be?

That's easy, I would be dead. I was born with a heart problem, and even 10-20 years earlier, I probably wouldn't have made it out of infancy.

    But assuming I...

  • RE: Problems with SP2?

The DB was patched from SP1, not RTM. I won't deploy RTM for production.

The corruption of Master was immediate and prevented SQL Server from starting. I have not...

  • RE: Problems with SP2?

No R2, thanks for the info though. Right now one production 2008 with a second coming online soon, and a smattering of 2000 and 2005.

    I'm guessing it's a fluke...

  • RE: Are Differential db backups necessary to restore from trans logs backups?

Gail definitely rocks, I met her at PASS a couple of years ago and attended one of her panels.

And doing file names with embedded date is so massively beneficial that...

Has anyone had any first hand experience with losing any data on a SAN system?

    Yes.

It's not data loss that Wayne's suggesting mirroring for. It's downtime. Sure, you could...

  • RE: Are Differential db backups necessary to restore from trans logs backups?

We've never had a data loss with our SAN, we have had disks failed and replaced, but that's never resulted in downtime. Our previous NAS box died bigtime, but...

  • RE: Are Differential db backups necessary to restore from trans logs backups?

If you need 24/7 uptime with a database of that size, you should definitely explore mirroring nd other high availability techniques. Do you have a server with enough storage...

  • RE: Are Differential db backups necessary to restore from trans logs backups?

My prefered methodology is to do regular transaction log backups like you're doing, a full backup at night, a differential at noon, then overwrite the transaction log with the first...
