In simple terms, yes. There are 2 connections, A-C and B-C. SSIS doesn't create a connection between A and B, it connects to each and then feeds the data from...

That's not really string splitting. Splitting would be something like taking the string "a,b,c,d" and expecting the output:
a
b
c
d

SQL Server is an awful tool for text parsing. There will be tools out there to do so, however, SQL Server is not the right tool for the job.
