  • RE: The Year 2013

I think as more and more servers are piled on SANs, especially with dense virtualization, more database people are finding performance problems from the shared pools of disks. There are...

    GilaMonster (12/26/2012)

Box set of Star Trek: The Next Generation DVDs. All seasons.

You guys don't need me for the next month or so, do you?

Enjoy. I watched them for almost a...

Constantly amazed by the number of people who think that full backups truncate the transaction log. Where do they get such ideas?

    To be honest, I...

Learning Sharepoint 2010+ should be on everyone's goals because the entire Microsoft technology is being intertwined with it now.

I tend to agree. This is one I've considered.

  • RE: Need script that totals free disk space AND free space in files

The problem is that you are asking for two fundamentally different things. I think you'd have to combine two scripts, perhaps though some union to get this.

    Here's one: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/scripts/Maintenance+and+Management/30881/

  • RE: SQL Server 2012 Build List

Good to hear, Jan. Ours is a 2007, and it's still doing well. A little beat up, body-wise, but as long as it runs, I'm happy.

  • RE: Are the posted questions getting worse?

Happy holidays, everyone and hope you enjoy the rest of the year. This is my last workday in 2012, though I'll be checking in here and there.

  • RE: SQL Monitor

What tools? What are you thinking of?

The Management Data Warehouse will do this, but it's a lot of admin, IMHO.

Extended Events or Trace can help, but they are a little...

    Vila Restal (12/21/2012)

Lastly, this method of collecting a poll isn't very efficient for you or the contributors.

Does this blog not have a survey facility or at least a thread...

  • RE: SQL Monitor

We use it here at SQLServerCentral. We expose the data at monitor.red-gate.com. It's delayed slightly and replicated to another server for the public side, but you can play with lots...

I personally prefer SQL Diagnostic Manager (praying I don't get attacked from mentioning an Idera tool on here ;-)) -

Nope, it's fine with me. If you like it,...

  • RE: Are the posted questions getting worse?

Did the world end and SQLServerCentral make it to heaven? All you here with me?

  • RE: The Load Poll

"I was taking to someone recently and this person had a large transaction load on their SQL Server."

Is that a euphemism and is that why you took to...
