I can see your point but I prefer to monitor the instances using one of the graphical third-party tools because they really do make it easy to determine where problems...

I'm inclined to agree with the comments here about leaving the size alone. ShrinkFile just wastes CPU cycles and causes overhead on the disk when it comes time to expand...
